The Guru-Sishya tradition is a unique feature of India, which is responsible for the sustenance of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the entire ancient classical literature through all the ages. Maharshi Vedavyaasa is to be remembered forever for His commendable task of classifying the Vedic wisdom into Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvanaveda, Shadangas viz. Siksha, Kalpam, Vyaakaranam, Niruktam, Chandas and Jyotisham and four Upa Vedas viz. Aayurvedam, Dhanurvedam, Gaandharavedam and Shastravedam so that the enormous Vedic knowledge can be comprehended well and utilized for the welfare of mankind. Thus the entire credit of establishing the Veda dharma firmly in India, goes to Vedavyaasa.

In the later period when anti Vedic religions gained prominence, Sri Adi Shankaraacharya, the incarnation of Lord Shiva, countered and condemned them and established the Vedic Philosophy in the name of "Advaita".

The most revered sage of our times, "Swami Dayananda Saraswati', continuing the tradition of Adi Shankara, has been propagating the Advaita Philosophy for many decades, not only in India but also across the globe.
